Sphere Grid Octaves

This tool shows how a sphere can be covered by an x×x square-like grid, and how octaves of 2 (1, 2, 4, 8, 16) subdivide the surface.

The sphere is parameterized by latitude (vertical) and longitude (horizontal). An n×n grid divides latitude and longitude into n bands, forming n² cells. Each cell is a warped “square” on the sphere, connected to its neighbors.
